We are a better nation because of immigration!

Co-housing can mean many different things and structured in different ways. We should be thinking outside the box when it comes to housing and community. Another article on some different ways people are creating homes and community together.

Buying a Seattle home is hard. Some found a friendly solution
People in Seattle are choosing to buy homes with friends and family, forging a new way to afford housing in a costly city.

Not a complete solution on its own, but we need all the help we can get. Would be interested in exploring more “co-housing” solutions. Not only can it help with housing, but it can also help with creating more community connections and help elders age in place.

A solution to King County’s housing challenges might be in our homes
Could home sharing help with high housing costs and homelessness in the Seattle area? Columnist Naomi Ishisaka looks at regional approaches that might help.

We are paying either way, but one has much better outcomes compared to the other.

Providing that level of services and care requires funding, but it seems to be well spent. Especially when compared to the alternative of sweeps, emergency room visits, criminal legal system costs and impacts to businesses and neighbors when we leave folks living unhoused without services.

I recently toured the Turina James building and was really impressed with Purpose Dignity Action’s programming. They treat clients with dignity and individualized care and it’s changing lives. They also do “after care”, continuing to provide services for around 12 months once someone is housed.

NEW: After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.

By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.
Seattle Spent Millions on Hotel Rooms to Shelter Unhoused People. Then It Stopped Filling Them.
Early last year, the city signed a $2.7 million lease extension to continue using a hotel’s rooms as shelter space. Yet despite committing to pay the rent, the city stopped sending people there.

We are spending enormous amounts of money, and often times just traumatizing people further and making things harder to solve.

Quite the flurry of news articles, all pointing for the need to improve our homeless systems, mental and behavioral health services, and criminal legal system. We need these systems to work together to address root causes and improve long-term outcomes.

Seattle residents report encampments in record numbers
More than 50,000 reports of homeless camping were made in the first eight months of this year, a 66% increase compared to the same time period last year.

If you heard the leader of another nation threatening to unleash the military against his perceived political enemies, what would you call it?

“They are weaker than they look” is an instantly iconic line because of how important, accurate, and timely it is.

AOC: I think there's two things that are happening at once: One, there absolutely is an unprecedented abuse of power, destruction of norms, erosion of our government and our democracy in order to prop up an authoritarian style of governance

However, they are weaker than they look…

If you’ve heard about Trump’s unprecedented and deeply frightening “speech” to all US military leaders today, but you didn’t watch it and aren’t sure what the concern is, this is worth watching. And if you’re still not frightened yet, you should be. youtu.be/v-7bB_UHmRc?...

Declaring war on blue cities and summoning our top US military brass from across the world to listen to this rambling but terrifying rhetoric is an extreme escalation. Under a functioning democracy, this would warrant impeachment and removal from office.

First day of #weekwithoutdriving, took my dog on light rail to doggie daycare and then light rail up to Northgate. I got to walk across the John Lewis Memorial Bridge. Felt special as I helped SDOT negotiate real property agreements with Seattle Colleges and WSDOT on this bridge project years ago.

Also, 1.2 million tires means over 3,200 tires being burned every day! There must be a better way to be meeting our concrete needs than this.

Life in the war-torn city of Portland, which has the lowest levels of violent crime in the US and hasn't seen civil unrest since the last time Trump deployed forces there to stir it up. Heavy preoccupation with the cultivation of roses and roasting good coffee. slate.com/life/2025/09...

Labor productivity has more than doubled since the late 1960s. But workers’ compensation has barely budged.

Yes. The economy is rigged in favor of the wealthy.
