I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

The Oregon Republican Party tried to help Donald Trump make the case for military intervention in Portland with an image of a fiery protest — but since Portland is calm, they had to fabricate one by merging old photos of police in Ecuador and protesters in Brazil www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Weird energy outside Portland’s ICE facility. Probably 100 people scattered around the area, seemingly a mix of protesters and counter-protesters. One guy seems to be looking for a fight from the protesters, who aren’t interested. “Are you scared?” he asked. “No, just annoyed.”

If you saw a headline about NYC potentially losing two big transit projects "because of the government shutdown," know this: 1) it's bullshit, and 2) ending the shutdown on the Trump administration's terms would be terrible for transit *all across the country*, and very likely in your community. 🧵
Is Sec. Duffy Holding NY Transit Hostage To Negotiate Away The Rest of America's Transportation Future? — Streetsblog USA
The federal Transportation secretary is using two large transit projects as a bargaining chip to bully Congress into passing a budget that could be disastrous for communities across the country.

Still livid at all the people who got in my YouTube comments last year to tell me Project 2025 was liberal fear mongering

Love to get a shoutout from the actual researchers! If you’ve watched the South Lake Union video, go read Dillon’s paper (cited in the video description). Or just skip the video altogether lol

This dovetails with another paper I co-authored — featured by the incredible @nerd4cities.bsky.social — covering how the amazing urbanism of Seattle's South Lake Union hides a built environment that serves surveillance.

am i the only person who cares about housing prices? is this like a niche political interest or something?
Scott Greer tweets: "Some may say it's frivolous to care about Bad Bunny as the Super Bowl halftime entertainment, but it matters for three reasons.

1) The Super Bowl is America's premier culture event. It reflects where mainstream culture is.

2) It shows the NFL willing to broadcast a middle finger to Red America in the form of an anti-Trump, anti-ICE, Spanish-only singer

3) An entire halftime show in Spanish is the clearest sign of America's Latin Americanization and an affront to our traditional culture."

The people who think they’re too smart to be susceptible to right wing influence operations are exactly the people who are still on X

This is a demonstration of how powerful the right wing misinformation machine is. They take a phrase or a word some Democrat said, attach the worst possible interpretation to it, and repeat their view of it THOUSANDS of times until even liberals remember it the way conservatives want them to.

I’ve heard Ezra now twice take one part of Hilary Clinton’s “deplorables” speech, without mentioning the rest of it, which does exactly what Ezra calls for Dems to do. I recognize that we have a politics of sound bits, but in full context the speech hits differently than he suggests.

Sara Nelson and Bruce Harrell both leaned into the “Seattle is dying” KOMO tv narrative (komonews.com/news/local/k...) to win their elections. In the process of doing so they validated the right-wing narrative about Seattle, and hurt our city’s reputation. Short term expediency, long term damage.

A total about-face by Metro Chamber and allies, trying to repeal the portrait of Portland crime they drew up during the post-COVID years, when it seemed politically advantageous.

Now, the crime narratives are “outdated,” because the people who constructed them decided so. Sleight of hand.
