Idol Precure (2025-2026): Best Reiwa Precure by a landslide, great cast, some of the best mascots in the series. It unfortunately runs out of steam by the second half. Lacks any real threatening villains and was carried by the concept of following the characters' journeys into becoming idols.

Cosmic Princess Kaguya: Fantastic movie, brimming with heart and emotion. Really impressive how they structured the film on the classic tale and continuously subverted your expectations on how the story was going to end layering twist over twist to keep you guessing.

this is one of those movies that sets the bar for its subject matter so impossibly high that nothing else that comes after it can possibly hope to compare, thus ruining my ability to enjoy scores of anime I might have otherwise been able to watch. it's excellent.
Subs (NF): about as good as you can expect for a movie with a boatload of on-screen text and song lyrics and other anime nonsense fighting against netflix's archaic sub tech. translation is quite good tho

netflix dumped the whole thing at once so I don't expect to see many people talking about it but it's a pleasant little shoujo romance-shaped original about learning art in hell. whole buncha vets involved so it's got a pretty rock solid foundation, though we'll see how it plays out
Subs (NF): good. same translator as ORB but there's more on-screen text and other anime-isms so it's hit harder by the netflix tech debuff

not like, at all impressive, but it's a significantly different flavor than anything else that's aired, and you can do much, much worse than troyca with a handful of i7 vets for your army of pretty boys
