Here’s a little news break for your social feed. There’s nothing like a crisp autumn morning in Portland, Oregon.

OPB captured the Rose City sunrise by drone on Tuesday, Oct. 7, showcasing the Willamette River, bridges, skyline and view of Mount Hood.

The ol' "bad memers" defense.

“When a Guardian reporter pointed out on social media that the image was not a genuine photograph of the generally small & tame protests outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Portland, the Oregon Republican Party’s X account replied: ‘We’re not reporters, just bad memers.‘”

The Oregon Republican Party tried to help Donald Trump make the case for military intervention in Portland with an image of a fiery protest — but since Portland is calm, they had to fabricate one by merging old photos of police in Ecuador and protesters in Brazil www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

A panel of judges is set to hear arguments Thursday on the Trump administration's appeal of the restraining order blocking the president from deploying the National Guard to Portland. But they could decide before then.

There was no official announcement from Washington that the California National Guard was being called up and sent to Oregon, just as was the case when Illinois’ governor made a similar announcement Saturday about troops in his state being activated.

Outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility on Saturday, federal officers pushed crowds of protesters hundreds of yards down city streets and fired tear gas, flash-bang grenades and pepper balls without any clear signs of provocation.

Two things felt different to the ppl I spoke with who’d been protesting at the ICE building for months.

1st was the sheer volume of tear gas, pepper balls and flash-bangs used, seemingly unprovoked.

2nd was seeing so many videographers/live-streamers embedded with the feds as they marched out.

Journalism is a tough business, but it sure is nice when your work helps correct the record on something truly awful.

Unfortunately, many outlets are increasingly shrinking away from this kind of work because it takes investment and time.
