Gavin Newsom fucking sucks, part MCXVII

he still has until the end of the week for the rest of the bills so unfortunately it’s time to suck it up, call his office, and politely ask this living hairpiece to do the bare minimum to protect the most vulnerable among us

Tron: Ares is the evil cousin to The Muppets in the Fan Fiction Franchise Media pantheon. Jason Segel inserted himself into the Muppets and created Life Is A Happy Song. Jared Leto inserted himself into the Tron universe and created a yawn-worthy Barbie knock-off. NineInchNails score rox tho

Just like the U.S. government can create concentration camps or bombs quickly but not safe housing for the unhoused or access to education, we have infinite money for AI slop that divides and dumbs down the population but not for creating wonderful communal art spaces. Funny how that works.

is an especially glorious place to remember that power as your entire line of vision is consumed with glorious artistry. More people should have access to it and other wonderful places for communal art experiences, like my local @deepvellum.bsky.social bookstore.

after watching movies like Aftersun, The Avengers, Get Out, Sinners, and so many other films. People I didn't know two hours ago were suddenly my pals as we talked about and processed the films we watched. That's the power of communal art spaces. a five-ft tall (and seven ft wide) IMAX 70mm screen

the tastes and cultures of individual neighborhoods. The same should be true of movie theaters. We need these physical spaces to appreciate art made from distinctive human beings that forces us to interact with other people. God knows how many wonderful experiences I've had bonding with strangers

The money, technology, and capabilities exist to give us a better world for our art and to bind people together through art. When I was interviewing someone for a Dallas Observer piece last year, they smartly said every neighborhood should have a bookstores and that those locations should reflect...

Imagine if we financed communal spaces where people from all walks of life could gather to appreciate art, to absorb objective reality (through books, paintings, movies, etc.) rather than algorithm-informed media meant to divide us all into our own little spaces and keep us in our apartments/homes.

Imagine if all those idiots financing Sora2 and other things that damage the environment, drive up electric bills, and only create souless art instead put their cash into making new IMAX 70mm projectors. Or creating movie theaters in the cities currently devoid of multiplexes. Or new book stores.

Per a Cinemark employee who gave a lovely speech before my IMAX 70mm One Battle After Another screening yesterday, it cost $70,000 to make one IMAX 70mm projector.

Per Forbes and the Stanford Institute, $109 billion was privately invested in AI last year.

Y’all I stumbled on this old movie on tv last night, Goldeneye, and did y’all know the dude who warbled his way through SOS in Mamma Mia! was James Bond? What a nutty world. Next you’ll tell me the grocery store manager from Hot Fuzz was 007.

It’s so annoying that we all have to just continually point out how rules around/between decorum and violation are applied asymmetrically to vulnerable groups versus the people who are always hassling them, and it’s extra insulting that the people in charge are trying to lol it away.

As some of you know, for 4 years I've been working on a book about the last 80 years of popular culture as a flashpoint for the gay rights struggle. Sometimes I've wondered who it's for. Then yesterday a young gay man, maybe 23, asked me if Stonewall happened because everyone was in NYC for Pride. >

I can't get over how the right-wing doesn't understand modern militaries, with the majority serving non-combat roles. You think the best IT security & logistics personnel spends two hours in the gym every day to look like the cast of 300? They're at furry conventions and model train shows.

This is doing numbers on social media right now and it's so depressing how people truly yearn for this shit and want to preserve that feeling indefinitely like a mausoleum of false memories.
