I’ve been in Devon where the poet, dramatist, and Scriblerian John Gay (1685-1732) was born on Joy Street, Barnstable. The site is now a beautiful Poundland, marked by a blue plaque. He went to school at nearby St. Anne’s grammar school, formally a chantry, now a chapel @literarybritain.bsky.social
