Millions of medically complex children and families count on WIC and SNAP to keep their plates filled. If the shutdown continues through October, their benefits are at risk.

3/3 🧵

“I’m most worried about the funds running out for both WIC and SNAP,” says @littlelobbyists.com mom Jodi, who lives in Pennsylvania.

“I know it probably won't happen... but it might.... for our family, we heavily rely on these programs to help our family out.”

All across America, families are being impacted by #TrumpsHealthcareShutdown — this is especially true for the parents and caregivers of medically complex and disabled children.

Here are some of their stories 1/3 🧵

Our country is facing a health care crisis the Trump administration and Republican leaders in Congress created with their unprecedented, reckless cuts to Medicaid and their refusal to extend the premium tax credits that make health insurance affordable for tens of millions of moms and families.

Dear Congress,
Our care is essential. We can’t afford this shutdown or these cuts.
Signed, all of us.
An individual holds up a sign that says 'protect Medicaid' in front of a poster urging to tell Congress to repeal the Medicaid cuts. The poster features images of the Capitol building and text about a government shutdown and protecting healthcare.

Thank you to @cantwell.senate.gov for standing up for #healthcare, our economy, our families, and our futures. Check out her must-read report on rising healthcare costs. Republicans must stop the healthcare cuts & work for, not against, America. #TrumpsGovernmentShutdown

Today I released a snapshot report detailing drastic cost increases for Americans who buy their own health insurance. Time is of the essence if we don’t want to see these double-digit increases. The White House and Congress should address this now.

•	This report found that in 29 states, the leading exchange plan insurer in that state has requested or been granted an increase of 20% or more.

•	This report found that in 20 states, the 2026 requested or final rate by that state's top exchange plan insurer will be at least 20 percentage points higher than how much that same insurer raised rates in 2025.

"When people tell me that #Medicaid has a lot of waste and fraud, I want to show them the mountains of paperwork and untold hours I spend on the phone coordinating Kinsley’s Medicaid eligibility and care."

Premium Tax Credits make health care affordable for 20M+ people. If they expire, millions won’t be able to go to the doctor.

Join us in urging Congress to make health care tax credits permanent & repeal the health care cuts they passed earlier this year: commcat.io/467vrRn

Really glad to see disabled students centered and profiled in this article on changing cultures at schools and the shift toward stricter rules, which really harm many people with varying disabilities from ADHD to those needing to step out of class for medical needs.
Strict rules can foster calm classrooms. But some students pay the price
An Indiana charter school network has won praise for its strong academics. But some students with disabilities struggle to follow the school system's discipline policies.

Medically complex and disable children shouldn’t be bargaining chips, period.

This outrageous act by #immigration officials is inexcusable and ultimately led to the separation of this 5-year-old autistic girl from Massachusetts 😡

Today’s announcement by RFK Jr. will likely lead to blaming parents if their children are diagnosed with autism & discouraging the safe use of Tylenol to appropriately manage pain and fever during pregnancy.

There are going to be a lot of Autism Parents who celebrate this. There are even going to be disabled people who cheerlead MAHA for this.

It's still catastrophic.

Autistic kids do not need to be cured.

Okay thanks bye.
