If you ever been camping or had to manage during a bad storm that knocks out the power, or (God forbid) you're in a natural disaster, you learn real quick that anything is useful to have around, especially when you have to start DIYing stuff.
So I’m not trying to dunk on this specific person, but people have such weird ideas of what emergencies will look like, and they’re largely based on idealized movies and prepper fantasies.
They imagine a world where 98% of the population dies and you can pick and choose what you want.

This was my paystub. I was working almost full time and made next to nothing. Couldn’t afford anything, so I just squirreled it away. They started me at $7.45 an hour. I busted my ass year round, and was rewarded with a couple of 0.50 raises here and there. Under $9 is nowhere near enough.
Btw this is a cropped in photo of my sibling’s old paystub from 2018. I currently make around $18.50/hr so when I work 36hrs I get over $650 (before taxes). My current job is a lot of work, but so is waitressing
