SIPS snippet #4:
It's so important to study patients directly to understand pain. So far, patient data seem to challenge the bayesian integration principles in pain. But we need a clearer picture - just as the work from Eleonora Camerone is striving to do! #SIPSplacebo2025 @sipsplacebo.bsky.social

SIPS snippet #3:
Excited that we have people with lived experience at this conference @sipsplacebo.bsky.social
The patient advisory board from Germany @sfb-trr-289.bsky.social has a poster today (Tues), no 88! Everyone at #SIPSplacebo2025 go check it out

SIPS snippet #2:
Mirta Fiorio talking at #SIPSplacebo2025 about placebo mechanisms in motor system - important topic in neurology! And: Expectation & placebo/nocebo mechanisms are highly relevant in functional neurol. disorder - glad that @sipsplacebo.bsky.social is picking this up!

SIPS snippet #1:
Ulrike Bingel from our @sfb-trr-289.bsky.social talking in the first plenary session of the SIPS conference in beautiful Krakow, presenting our work - no effect of dopamine pharmacomodulation on experimental placebo hypoalgesia.

One Saturday afternoon, we started with @winstontan.bsky.social and @liviaasan.bsky.social presenting the new SIPS ECR network. 🙌

Afterwards, @rimamrahal.bsky.social gave a fantastic keynote on #openscience and #registeredreports. ☝️

Of course, socializing also happened in the evening! ✨

As many of you know, I’ve been fascinated by brain attractor dynamics lately.

Thrilled to share a new preprint on their link to orthogonal neural representations, co-authored with Karl Friston:
arxiv.org/abs/2505.22749
- with implications for both neuroscience & AI!

First in a series - stay tuned!
Self-orthogonalizing attractor neural networks emerging from the free energy principle
Attractor dynamics are a hallmark of many complex systems, including the brain. Understanding how such self-organizing dynamics emerge from first principles is crucial for advancing our understanding ...

🧵1/ New research alert! Our preprint is out: the largest study to date exploring neuropsychiatric and mental health outcomes in women with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). What did we find? A lot, and it matters.

🎉🥳 New article in BRAT:
Prior research on belief updating, including my own work, has neglected characteristics of the person who provides new information. Here, we systematically manipulated the person's behaviour and examined its effect on belief updating.

It's the content of the feedback that matters, not the person giving it: An experimental study on change of negative performance expectations
Previous research on biased expectation change has mainly focused on the mechanisms underlying the deficient processing of novel positive information …

Functional neurological disorder (#FND) remains a research orphan at NIH. FND is among the costliest and least funded sources of neurological disability (see graph). The latest NIH review cycle was no exception: zero FND-based grants were funded.

NEW FND FILM !- 'Recognising Functional Seizures'🎥

neurosymptoms.org/en/media/fnd...

This 7-minute film was designed to help doctors and other health professionals, especially in emergency medical settings, learn about functional seizures and how to tell them apart from epileptic seizures. 1/

Great input from a great webinar! Many implications for funct. sens. and motor symptoms. Sensory processing relies on feedforward modeling of sensory consequences of own actions. Many things could go wrong here & produce prediction errors as basis for aberrant sensations or invol. movements.

This should chill everyone in this country to the bone. All she did was write an OpEd the administration didn’t like. This is fascistic suppression of free speech.
The image is a screenshot of a post on X by The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ
). The post reads: "Federal immigration authorities detained a Turkish graduate student at Tufts University. The government hasn’t filed any charges against Rumeysa Ozturk, who was in the U.S. on a student visa, her lawyer said. Read more: on.wsj.com/3E3AM0b." Below the text, there is an image showing a person in a hoodie detaining another person in a white coat and headscarf outside an apartment, with a car and another person in a cap nearby. The image caption reads: "off-campus apartment."

Today is #FND awareness day!
I was lucky to learn a lot from people with FND and leading scientists within the last six months here at @kingsioppn.bsky.social.
If you don't know about FND - here's a great read!

Today is FND Awareness Day (UK)!

FND is a common, painful, and disabling disorder.

It remains under-studied and stigmatized, but we’re making progress.

Here’s my in-depth personal essay on how we got here.
