"Nobody"? Then why do I have to explain what the FD was, and wasn't, to about a half-dozen different (allegedly; I suspect they're bots) people a day?

It goes back, AFAIK, at least to Wimpy from the old Popeye comic strips, the 1930s era. It may have been a phrase used at the time, or original to the strip, that I dunno.
As you note, it is a phrase that needs to be brought back as it perfectly describes, well, this sort of thing.
