This is what they're doing to U.S. citizens right now.

Imagine what they're doing to immigrants.

This is terrifying!

ICE breaks into this woman’s car in the pick-up line at West Loop Elementary school in Chicago and detains her before she can pick her kids up from school. (They were eventually let go after showing their documents)

This is Trump’s America.

And that's why democracies keep failing. Because people get annoyed with all those pesky "rules" and "limits" and "technicalities" and just want a Big Strong Man Who Gets Stuff Done.

"Here's a token of us sending you out, unprepared, a lamb to the slaughter."
lizardky.bsky.social
"Here's a coin"? What does that mean in this context?

They can't simply decide (currently) "No license for you!" without a long, formal process consisting of many steps, hearings, and appeals.

Sorry the government isn't as fascist as you'd like... YET. But I suspect if it ever is as fascist as you wish, you won't be happy about it.
lizardky.bsky.social
Under what rule, based on which specific things that were broadcast (by every local station?).

The FCC has almost never removed a license. (It does happen, but very rarely), and has never done so without granting multiple opportunities for the licensee to correct any error.

Who is going to "hit them"? The money they paid was not a fine imposed by the government. It was a settlement in a defamation suit brought by Dominion.

Hmm... I think a list I forgot I subbed to is saving me a lot of annoyance...

It's like saying the security guard at the mall can break into anyone's house a mile away, without a warrant, if they claim they think they saw a shoplifter run into it.
lizardky.bsky.social
Not so much the use of force, but the physical area their authority pertains to.

Protest a few blocks away? Well, in theory, some guy with a rifle *could* shoot at federal property from there, so, go get those hippies!
lizardky.bsky.social
They're talking about "Federal Protective Services Staff", which I assume doesn't include the local cops, but which arguably (IANAL) might include NG seconded to that duty?
lizardky.bsky.social
I know of no way YOU can be forced to follow someone because they followed you.

If that's somehow permitted or is a setting, a)it's news to me, b)they should remove it.
lizardky.bsky.social
In short, it's an order saying "We're permitting you to break your orders. Who is going to prosecute you? Not us!"
lizardky.bsky.social
That NG troops are not supposed to be police, and are supposed to be limited entirely to "defending Federal buildings".

This is an order saying "Hey, you see anyone you think needs to be shot, or just wanna break into someone's house for fun, don't worry about the terms you're deployed under!"

And if I look in a mirror, I appear to be morbidly obese.

Sometimes, things are what they appear to be.

It is much better to simply debunk the lies when you encounter them in public spaces, vs. demanding legal action that will never happen.

(And mock/block anyone that refuses to accept that they ARE lying, of course.)
lizardky.bsky.social
Virtually nothing on FNC meets any kind of legal test. Demanding the government "do something" when there's nothing they can do is a way to get people to waste time and energy and serves no purpose.
lizardky.bsky.social
A small sub-section of lies can be legally dealt with: Defamation (very tough to prove), false advertising (no, calling yourself 'news' and then lying a lot doesn't count), perjury (doesn't happen on TV), etc.
lizardky.bsky.social
Yes, they do.
Continuously, maliciously, and brazenly.

But that's not illegal and there's nothing the FCC, or any branch of the government, can do about it. And granting them the power to do something about it means letting Trump, or the next one like him, decide what is "true" in the news.
