This is sad news #medievalsky #skystorians. Bob Moore's 'The Formation of a Persecuting Society' grabbed my imagination as an undergrad historian and is one of the reasons I became a medievalist. May he rest in peace.

I've created a Legal History starter pack as I don't think anyone else has and it seems like the type of thing we should have. I'm sure I missed people (apologies!), so hit me up if I have: go.bsky.app/XJxJpA

How delicately a Romanesque angel uses the lightest touch of a finger to wake one of the magi, snuggled with the other 2 under their crochet-trimmed circular blanket at St Lazare, Autun, c1130 (& how beautifully the textures of pillow & blanket are represented).
Season's greetings to you all!

I am thrilled to announce that a new edition of my MEDIEVAL ANGLO-JEWISH WOMEN project has just been released! Work will continue for the next 5 years, expanding and employing ever more precision, but it is already an excellent resource. Please do check it out: majw.uvic.ca/index.html. Pass it on.

Coming to this conversation late and puzzled that the dispute is bear vs. badger and not Benny Goodman vs. Artie Shaw. Begin the Beguine has always struck me as implicitly medieval. ;-)

Had a great time discussing @jctate1215.bsky.social's new book on litigation over advowsons at the ASLH conference. The scholarship on the early common law focuses on litigation over land, but Josh argues we should see advowson litigation as a central part of Henry II's reforms
