Our time with the Dolly cargo bike has come to an end. I want to thank Pat @pfitzp.bsky.social (@limerickecargobike on X) for letting us trial the bike.
The end result?
We're all in. Moving the kids via cargo bike is a no brainer.

Yes, but can she do it away to Sligo Rovers on a wet Wednesday night in the middle of a constitutional crisis ? #Aras25

As is, with his continued push to not only lift the Dublin Airport passenger cap but also to significantly increase numbers, Minister O'Brien seems more like a minister for worsening climate change than one responsible for climate action and a sustainable transport system.

Brilliant letter below!

The bike stands on Parnell Street definitely get some usage, but I would like to see a few redistributed around the city.

A cynical and tone-deaf move to remove the parklet and bike stands outside Canteen. They were very popular and well used.

135,802 bike trips

That's the number for 2024 of the Shannon Bridge. Counted between 12am and 10pm each day, (only 22 hours, so the real number is likely about 138,000)

Not bad imo.

I cycled out the Childers Road Friday morning to see if people used the bike lane. I counted 32 bikes and scooters in 30 minutes (1/3)

Some differences between the 3 cities are:

Cork has cycle lanes in the city centre, where the bike share is.

Limerick has cycle lanes outside the city centre, where the bike share isn't.

Galway has almost no bike lanes at all.

Some numbers on our TFI bike share scheme from 2023, including in Limerick Chamber's recent "Mid West Economic Insights" report:

Around 14,000 trips in 2023. For comparison the cycle lane on the Shannon Bridge has 12,000 bike trips per month.

Car-centric design hurts people in small towns just like in big cities.

I saw this old lady cross this busy road on her walker because the direct trip (nursing home to Tim Horton’s) was 100 metres, versus 1 kilometre to walk up the road, cross at a light, and come back.

You would have to go through it a few times to understand it. Some little arrows under the bike lights might help, to know which lights apply to which directions.
