TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

To those in the UK, and around the world, who want to delay the urgent action needed to tackle the climate crisis or who deny it even exists...

...Ed has a message for you:

"You may be well funded....but you are loosing.

The world is uniting to fight the climate crisis and you will lose!"

When I say I’m concerned about Climate Change, this is the kind if thing I’m talking about. Oh, and “concerned” is not nearly a strong enough word.
🌊 Latest coral bleaching event affected 84% of reefs globally across 83 countries.

At 2°C global warming, nearly all reefs would disappear, threatening biodiversity and climate resilience.

2024 was officially the hottest year on record and surpassed 1.5 degrees Celsius for the first time. 📈

In Canada, it was also the costliest year for insured damages from extreme weather.

2024 declared hottest year yet as average annual temperature warms beyond 1.5 C threshold for first time
New data released by Europe’s Copernicus Climate Change Service show last year marks the planet’s entry into a heat regime that the Paris climate agreement explicitly aims to avoid
