The split in the Democratic Party—between those who can name and respond to what is happening and those who cannot—is growing into a chasm.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

Typepad is shutting down forever.

Never left the platform. My first blog (def. weblog; Web 2.0 online publishing model, archaic) is still there. INTERSECTIONS, 20 years.

The Internet is both permanent and impermanent. It runs away from you, dissipates, disappears. A lot of us lived the best of it.

I remember the first time I visited Chicago I dropped by the National Museum of Mexican Art, walked over to a local market that was selling surprisingly legit Mexican food, and it was confusing to me because I kept thinking...how can this feel so familiar but be 1,700+ miles away from So Cal?
