Project 2025 took something from all of us. This month, we start taking it back.

THE PLAN: We pick one town on the other side of the border, and flood it with kindness.

Watch the video, and let's try to reverse some of the damage. Even just a fraction. #JustOneTown

Just One Town: THE PLAN
What if Canadians and Americans stopped being angry at each other for one day? Not for a country. For one small town. How it works, why it matters, and how you take part, it’s all in this…

Huge undersea wall dating from 5000 BC found in France
The 120 metre wall was either a fish-trap or a dyke for protection against rising sea-levels, archeologists believe.

I don’t understand why people ask you a question if they don’t want an honest answer. I was asked by someone what I would like for Christmas, but apparently a secluded castle on the Scottish coast “isn’t realistic.”

I'm hoping that the Satie-esque gags I shoehorned into this piece won't mean that I'm banned from writing for the LRB from now on. I've always been haunted by Peter Blegvad's story that he was 'sacked from Henry Cow for making a joke'.
‘Ian Penman is perhaps the first person to make a point of placing Erik Satie’s humour in context, and to locate him in a tradition which includes not only Rabelais and Spike Milligan but also the likes of Ken Dodd and Les Dawson.’
