From the FB…

Remember when the UCP cut popsicles for kids battling cancer?

Now they’re apparently making it harder to get the bloodwork of kids battling cancer to the lab.

🚨 Yesterday was the 3rd day in a row of unsustainable water demand 🚨

It is URGENT that we conserve water. If we all do a little bit we can bring demand down:

💧 Shorter Showers
💧 Fewer Flushes
💧 Full Loads (Dishes/Clothes)

Every Drop Helps 💧
Update #24 6am Jan 7
Calgary, we remain in the water red zone. But we can do this! If we can support our frontline crews for a little bit longer, we can stabilize our system. Small actions add up – please conserve water now. Find out how to save water and stay informed at calgary.ca/watermainbreak.

Ask our Water Expert: How to save 30L of water a day?

🚿 Cut shower time: Aim for 3 min.
🚽 Flush less: each flush = 6L. Skipping 2 to 3 saves 18L.
💧Turn off the tap: saves 6 to 8L per min.

Small choices, big impact.

Albertans, this no longer is fun and games. It never was. What seemed unreal, with separatists’ aid, is now reality.

”In this context, Canadians must acknowledge the real risk that Mr. Trump will use military coercion against our country.”

Yesterday, Calgarians consumed 510 Megalitres of water, exceeding the sustainable limit of 485 Megalitres per day.

To prevent depleting reserves crucial for firefighting, cut shower times to under 3 minutes, flush toilets sparingly, and only run full loads of laundry and dishes.

If we do not reduce usage immediately, we risk running out of water for essential services. Action required to save water now:

🚿 Limit showers to 3 minutes
🚽 Flush only when necessary
🍽️ Run dishwashers and laundry only when full

Update #18 6am Jan 5
Overnight, our water use slipped further into the redzone. Without changes, we'll enter loss-of-life territory, where firefighting and emergency response may be compromised. This is serious. Reducing use now protects lives and keeps essential services running. Please conserve.

Trump's regime has murdered people in the water. He has seized ships on the high seas. He has invaded a country and kidnapped their leader.
All bets are off with the United States.
Canada needs to build alliances with Europe and to be ready on the home front.

Therefore we need mask mandates (with respirator masks) reinstitutued at all HC facilities (including LTC) to prevent these needless infections filling beds.
we have these in Edmonton, now Calgary needs to step up.
(sorry for the bad mask image, blame AHS/CTV)

also, we have covid and influenza still causing outbreaks on hospital units. Unforced error! We should have near-zero or zero Hospital-acquired infections. Respiratory infections (including influenza and COVID) are predominantly spread by airborne means

Yes!
Masks work! respirator masks work even better. If you are vulnerable wear a mask to protect yourself. If you are sick, wear a mask, or better yet stay at home and avoid making your fellow citizens sick as well.

Holiday meals shouldn’t turn into plumbing problems.

🛑 Don’t pour fats, oils or grease down the drain.
✅ Let FOG cool/harden, then scrape it and compost it. This also includes milk! But instead, soak it up with newspaper or used paper towel and put in your green bin.
