Starmer has been totally clear that he stands with Ukraine. The issue is to use such tools as the UK has, which are limited but not entirely negligible, to do so with ruthless pragmatism, and without self-indulgent gestures, however gut-wrenching the former and however tempting the latter.
No. Sometimes you have to pick a side and stand with your allies against tyranny. This is one of those moments.

Right now, I am remembering the Merz statement from Sunday night whether we still have a NATO in its current shape by summer.
I think it is fair to say that NATO of the last 60 years is gone already, and today was proof of it.

Perhaps we can stop being so parochial about Starmer's trip to Washington now. It was a failure. We are in a battle against fascism. And every decision we make is judged by whether it assisted or opposed it.
