🚨 New(ish) Publication Alert! Delighted to see my article Credit Claiming in the EU @thejop.bsky.social I explore a classic question for accountability in Europe: when and why do govs claim credit for the work of the EU and shift blame onto Brussels to avoid responsibility? doi.org/10.1086/732970
Credit Claiming in the European Union | The Journal of Politics: Vol 87, No 3
Incumbents in multilevel systems are assumed to exploit uncertainty of responsibility by claiming credit and shifting blame, yet little is known about when and how they engage in these rhetorical stra...

#POLITKOLUMNE: A plutocracy rather than a democracy? A person above the median income is electorally worth 1.16 times a pereson below the median.

In Swiss direct democracy, however, wins & defeats are distributed quite equally across income classes @leewas.bsky.social www.derbund.ch/politkolumne...

Ballot after ballot, #directdemocracy shows us where representation did not work.

Take today's vote on a tax break for homeowners: @leewas.bsky.social polls suggest it is largely supported by homeowners, a group with a strong lobby. Renters tend to oppose it, with ≈60% being renters in Switzerland

In our new @wepsocial.bsky.social paper, we assess how mainstream parties rhetorically create an affect-based "common front" against the radical right.

In many countries, mainstream politicians are adopting rhetoric and policies that typical of the far-right.

Our new paper (w/ @dziblatt.bsky.social and E Dinas), out now in the @bjpols.bsky.social, finds that doing so erodes norms more than when far-right politicians make similar statements.

A milestone today: my first PhD publication, co-authored with Fabio Wasserfallen, is out in the @spsr.bsky.social. The article compares Swiss Euroscepticism—just as the title promises. The article is open access: doi.org/10.1111/spsr...
Bar chart comparing public perceptions of the EU across European countries. Switzerland stands out with one of the highest shares of negative views (very negative or fairly negative) and the lowest positive evaluations, similar only to the UK and Czech Republic. Most other countries, including Norway and Iceland, show more positive or neutral attitudes.

Do men see gender parity in representation as detrimental to their interests? What about when women’s representation exceeds parity? And how do such shifts affect men’s fairness perceptions? I address these questions in my article, now published in PRQ. 1/9

😵‍💫 We understand that there might be some confusion about EPSS and EPSA.

I am so honored, happy, and still a bit in disbelief that my book "The Normalization of the Radical Right" has won APSA's Dahl Award and the best book prize for the Democracy and Autocracy Section.

I can't thank enough everyone who has helped out with this project throughout the years.
