Hey @nickofferman.bsky.social congratulations on Little Woodchucks! I snagged a ticket for the Des Moines book tour stop, so hopefully I’ll be able to say hi. But if you’re in town a bit early I’d be happy to give you the nickel tour of the WOOD magazine shops. sites.prh.com/little-woodc...

Been a while since they let me write an article for this magazine I’m supposedly in charge of. But, I got in a solid stretch of prop making and studio time this week working on a fun little CNC technique. #woodworking #CNC #woodmagazine

Shipping the files off to the printer for the July issue of WOOD magazine. The cover article is a nice little head-to-head compact cordless mitersaw test. Here is a collection of detail shots that you will never see in the magazine, but show you the detail our testers dive into.

Working on releasing some free woodworking plans into the wild. Here's one for a pencil-post Shaker-style bed. It uses a fun jig for making tapers on 8' legs. Enjoy! www.woodmagazine.com/project-plan...

Editing a hardware cabinet project article for the July issue. Why did the builder choose to leave only the top right bin empty when he propped it? Oh. I see. #woodworking #amediting #easteregg

Is this the best instructional #woodworking video ever made? No. Is it the best I've ever made? Far and away, yes. Sound on.

March 2025 issue of WOOD magazine should be hitting newsstands and mailboxes in about a week-ish. Cover project is a comfy deck chair. Our designer, Kevin, started with the idea of keeping all the things he liked about an Adirondack chair and upgrading everything else. More in comments. #woodworking

Lord help us. My son wanted welding gear for birthday and Christmas and the fam came through. I’ve always wanted to give it a try as well, but we know not what we are doing. Not #woodworking

Happy Holidays from WOOD magazine! Fun fact: Santa has been on the cover of WOOD 3 times if you only count his photographic appearances. The current Editor-in-Chief? Once. On the Issue 2 cover (1984), Santa is employing poor bandsaw safety practices, but taunting you with all 5 fingers. #woodworking

I just realized that I’m working on page proofs of the project sitting directly in front of me. The plans are for the March issue of WOOD. Should be in your hands starting about 1/21 or so. #woodworking #amediting

Time for Assistant Editor Georgie to get to work on page proofs for the March issue of WOOD. As always, he applies minimal effort. #amediting #woodworking

Hey #woodworking (and #clockmaking) Bluesky: I built this clock some time ago and the one thing that bugs me is the size of the hands. It uses a battery powered high-torque movement and the longest hands on offer for it. Can I fabricate longer hands. How? Out of what? Would the movement tolerate it?

Hey #woodworking Bluesky, anyone build any projects where the wood had some significant or just cool provenance? Went on a family vacation to DC this summer and the only souvenir I felt compelled to buy was a turned mechanical pencil made from cherry wood salvaged from the Capitol grounds.

Here’s one I designed for the laser cutter several years back. Roughly based on the Hoot-Nanny magic designer toy from the 30s. This one was fun.

I'm fascinated by (but bad at) art. (I married an artist.) Obviously interested in #print. (Chased a career in a "dying" medium.) A while back, I mixed the two with my #woodworking to design this little clamshell hand press. The plate hinges on black pipe and the handle levers against the crossbar.

One of the weird little tasks as EIC is that I get to write up a lot of the little blurby parts of the book that no one reads. Like the TOC. At times, it's liberating because you can say anything you want and nobody complains except the proofreader. Go on. Give me suggestions. #editing #woodworking

These are WOOD magazine's Design Editors, John Olson and Kevin Boyle. John is the designer and builder of the Timber Line Express train plans that we're currently publishing. We cleared off the filing cabinets in our office so he'd have a spot to play with his creation. #woodworking
