That's funny, I was just comparing genAI data centers to mako reactors with a friend recently. To think, we built the environment destroying structures just to make computers steal and approximate art. At least Shinra's environmental destruction was about generating electricity for modern living.

Wow I only played two games on my Switch last year huh? And one of those was just to screenshare it, so I really only played one game for myself. To be fair, even on other platforms I don't think I played that many games in general last year.

He's right and it's something I've tried to stress for years. If your "hobby" or "fandom" or "lifestyle" can end up with people wishing to harm or mentally abuse you, then you absolutely have a closeted/coming out situation every time you tell someone.
A few years ago, it was popular among furries to joke about the idea of "coming out" as a furry because it's just a hobby. You can't come out as having a hobby!

I personally believe if we want to try and dress up using AI gen to "speed up production" as if that is the real concern, we should instead be more okay with reusing already existing assets made by actual humans, rather than generating from a pool of stolen assets at a massive energy cost
