Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Jon Meacham says when it comes to American history “we need to tell the whole story.” But Donald Trump is pushing to erase the parts that don’t align with his vision. This past week he ordered a "comprehensive internal review of selected Smithsonian museums and exhibitions," and to remove anything his administration deems as “improper ideology.” In response, Meacham posed the question: “Is recognizing a national mistake and talking about its rectification and its ongoing need for attention and care, -- is that in alignment [with Trump’s agenda]?” He says having Trump appointees make these calls could become a slippery slope.
