One of our wonderful new PhD researchers Kristin Käuper recently spoke at the University of Manchester's postgraduate philosophy conference, Open Minds XVIII!

Kristin's talk looked at how asexuality can help us create a better philosophical account of sexual orientation.

Well done Kristin! 🥳🙌

Had an interesting time in the first @clsrleeds.bsky.social reading group of the year reading ‘“Just a little gay”: how sexual orientation comes in degrees’ by Kevin Richardson.

New publication! ✨

Remember Jonah Hill asking Sarah Brady to stop modeling to respect his “boundaries”? Or an abusive boss recommending mindfulness after your complaints?

@almagro.bsky.social and I are now ready to tell you when and why therapy-speak might be wrong.

Erinne Paisley discussed women’s shared hermenutic labour around online dating. @lukebrunning.bsky.social asked why dating apps failed in their promise to make our lives easier.

It's the final day of our MANCEPT workshop on Intimate Utopias. My talk will present (very) rough material from an ongoing book project, and will ask why dating apps suck despite their promise to improve our lives.

Yeah I think so, not sure much we learn from it.

Yet these changes might just reflect shifting (and possibly better) social attitudes towards intimacy.

More research will help us understand the causal connections between the move to online dating and the quality of people’s intimate lives.
