Exciting news! I've been given the go-ahead to announce my FORTHCOMING BOOK. And... it's non-fiction! I'm nearly done a first draft of NOT JUST PLAYING MAKE-BELIEVE and I am so overjoyed to have sold it to @ecwpress.bsky.social. I can't wait for you all to read it in 2027.

So, I'm making a video game based on Palestinian folklore. It's called Thursday of the Dead, and you can talk to a Palestinian ghouleh. It will have branching narrative, and art all made by a human (me). I need exactly $100 to launch it on Steam when it's finished.

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.

I think it is a good sign for this manuscript that I have had to reposition it as a "reward" - I.e. a thing I get to work on once my other necessary/more time pressing stuff is done, because I just want to work on it all the damn time.

Okay so I'm still noodling this out a little but I think I've finally figured out my stance on the whole "what do you owe other people" in the context of therapy

For context: I see a lot of folks stuck in cycles of taking responsibility, people pleasing, downgrading their own emotions, etc.

This insight brought to you by the approximately 20 hours of Hades 2 I've played this weekend. (A gift of a day spent playing only this game and not planning to do essentially anything else was the gift I got myself for my birthday this year. And what a great gift it was, if I do say so myself.)

I feel like videogames are such a big dopamine hit for me specifically because they have clearly defined goals and explicitly tell you what to do (the games I like, and play anyways). It's just nice to not be scoping and figuring out all the moving parts of a nebulous task in at least one space.

It's Stanislav Petrov Day, the day the world was saved by one man's decision to think and not react. I wrote him a poem.

I keep thinking about buyers and how—over the space of a decade or two—I watched how the chain bookstore I worked at went from "let us tell find the right book for you" to "these books go here on these displays, exactly like this, no exceptions."

It… sucked.

I spent the summer reporting this essay on why it seems harder than ever to sell a book right now—especially if it isn't a debut and comes with the dreaded "sales track." I'm grateful to the writers, agents, editors, publishers & experts who spoke to me for this piece: thewalrus.ca/the-publishi...

Seems like a good time to remind people that Canada Post will deliver any piece of mail to federal elected officials for FREE.

No stamp necessary!

Just a reminder in case you, oh I dunno, wanna send your elected officials a sternly worded letter a day for a year or something.

Me too! Thank Goodness is such a great "sad song sung to happy tune" and those ALWAYS FUCKING GET ME
lynnesargent.bsky.social
fair, but I think that was more for length! Turning a 1 hour long act into a whole movie would have been hard to make it feel consistently like a musical without adding more songs!

I know that SOME PEOPLE (subtweeting @afsulli.bsky.social here) think that Act 2 of Wicked has no bangers, but this most recent trailer affirms to me more than ever that No Good Deed is going to fucking slap.

Speaking of @canconsffh.bsky.social , last year's starter pack for panelists, vendors and volunteeers was popular, so I made a new one for this year. Please tell me if you're on programming or helping out with Can*Con this year and would like to be added, or if you'd like to be removed.
