My favorite writing thing I did this year beside publish my book was get back into short story writing, including writing this one and getting published at a dream pub. If you haven’t read it, I’ll say that i think it’s a very good end of year kind of story to read

I’m so fucking sick of weak-ass Democrats who refuse to see that the GOP is not a political party and is, in fact, a terrorist organization. Stop trying to negotiate with terrorists. It’s not hard. That’s why so many people fall for the “both sides are the same” bullshit.

Absolutely correct
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

We are in a health care emergency. A simple one-year extension of these tax credits would cost less than Donald Trump’s $40 billion bailout for Argentina.
