Dissatisfaction, however, is widespread at the moment, often among people who (still) have little reason to be. They then, out of spite, vote for right-wing parties that tell them lies, which makes them even more dissatisfied.

Germans and Austrians tend to be rather grumpy. Simply being happy is suspect. The beer tent cosiness is also a legend.

You describe my situation exactly. I've been experiencing this for 20 years. Euthanasia is now legal but I don't have the money for it.
Not everything that glitters is gold. And Germany still thrives on a good reputation that's now nothing more than a legend.
It's more pleasant when you have money.

The word "milk" is forbidden for oats, but permitted for cleaning products and skin care. "Sausage" also means a lot of things that have nothing to do with meat. This isn't just populism; it's directed against political enemies. Language regulations in government offices, schools, and ministries.

The ecological footprint of meat is ruining the earth.
Factory farming is ruining health (keyword: manure or antibiotics).
Cheap meat is ruining animal welfare.
Too much meat in the diet is ruining people's health.
Is that enough?

They're constantly making claims like, "The Greens want to take away our schnitzel" or "dictate what we're allowed to eat and say."

New labels, new advertising. It costs existing identifying features, and it costs money. Who pays for it? The consumers who buy the less harmful product. And meat continues to be subsidized with tax revenue.
