Holst Architecture has scheduled a Design Advice Request meeting to discuss a 100 unit affordable housing development for Edlen & Co Hacienda CDC. www.portlandmaps.com/detail/permi...

The building on Parcel A at 1701 SE Water St, would be the first to move forward as part of the OMSI Master Plan.
Screenshot from Portland Maps with aerial view and text "New residential project on the OMSI master plan developed by Edlen & Co. and Hacienda CDC. Estimated at 100 units at a maximum height of 65', this building will be affordable housing focused on community development with exterior programmed space and and a strong desire to reconnect the public and residents to Portland's waterfront. New pedestrian pathways, extensive landscaping and innovative systems on display are some of the values in the project. Storm water management will be highly considered in the landscaping and integral to the project design. It will be functional for protecting the building and designed to highlight the site's relationship to the earth and water." Don’t radicalize me into hating Burgerville and loving In-N-Out.

Update: they are praying and eating Burgerville

You’ve been banging the drum on this!

This is exactly the kind of move that the city should be making during a difficult budget environment.

There’s still the opportunity to do more, but this is a huge change in approach from Parks that should be celebrated.

Great news from Portland Parks. They've made it easier and cheaper for mobile vendors to set up at local parks!

Food trucks & other vendors make public spaces sticky & build community.

Hope this gives momentum to @councilorgreen.bsky.social hot dog ordinance. www.portland.gov/parks/news/2...

The mayor prior to him was also a former Republican!

Doesn't look like it. I can't remember exactly which code provision triggers the requirement for elevators, but I don't believe it kicks in until 5 stories.

They cited that in their Early Assistance application, but so far haven't submitted a building permit application (which isn't unusual; it takes time to design a whole building). This one on Interstate has now broken ground.

There was no activity on the building permit between May 2024 and August 2025, so I think it would be fair to assume that the SDC waiver made the difference between the project remaining stalled out and moving forward. 3/3 www.portlandmaps.com/detail/permi...

The project went through the Neighborhood Contact process back in Spring 2023, right about the time development activity in Portland ground to a halt. 2/3 www.portlandmaps.com/bps/neighbor...

Last week a building permit was issued for what I think is the first building to have taken advantage of Portland's new SDC waiver.

It's an 18 unit building at N Interstate and Bryant. 1/3 www.portlandmaps.com/detail/permi...

I can’t unhear how similar Taylor Swift’s new song ‘Opalite’ is to the 1982 Luis Miguel song ‘1+1=2 Enamorados’

The math probably would have worked with 2008 construction costs and 2018 sales prices?
maccoinnich.bsky.social
Correct. Zoning allows the style of development shown; market doesn’t support it.

Images are from prior to the financial crisis, when the local condo market collapsed. The only high rise development since then has been OHSU buildings and the Willamette tower (which is a rental, with a much thicker floorplate).

A preliminary injunction hearing may follow later this month and the facts on the ground matter.

If a right wing influencer with a camera is trying to goad you into a fight, there is a reason for that, and the reason is we could lose our legal standing to stop the feds from coming in.

If the New York Times is looking to Portland to find out what happens when socialists get elected, we can give them the answer: there are a lot of meetings about how many meetings to have.
