Well done! 👏 is the Subalp a first for the Azores?! Corvo birders must be getting nervous a bit now you guys have arrived! 😂

I still can’t get over the fact it hit a single small microturbine, the chances of it happening were ridiculous! and being watched hitting it at the same time

It was Bob Swann and I that refound it 7km away so we didn’t get to witness the dukes of hazard scenes at the loch! 😂

Ha-ha!, yes that’s Al with waistcoat on behind your car. Best parking award definitely goes to the Jag! 😂 This pic was taking just as a local bus arrived trying to go right to left through this scene…

Having had a quiet 5 days birding in the Spurn area, news broke of a White- Throated Needletail further North. We dashed to Hornsea Mere hoping to find it there when it was then reported further North at Bempton cliffs. 35 minutes late and Bingo. What a cracking bird. A borrowed pic attached.

I’ve no experience of effractana so can’t really help, although description from micro book seems to fit it better from your photo. Emargana relatively common there. I would contact Mike Pennington to check it

No mainland Shetland records of A.effractana up to 2016, only Fair Isle records…

Hi James, it’s a Hummingbird Hawk Moth, they look a bit different when they have their wings tucked up! Great find! 👍
macstronach.bsky.social
Nothing special, just putting it out regularly, also helps we have a mild night here tonight!

A freshly stranded By-The-Wind Sailor, one of many pushed ashore by strong winds on the west coast of Barra today. Lots of obvious specimens of 6-8cm scattered over the beaches but also masses of tiny ones down to 5mm in length spread along the strandline. #Beachcombing

Yes, as well as the different shades of blue and grey, the black of the primaries seems more a washed out browny black than a proper black colour

Apparently 1CY males can have very similar ground colour of GCs and MCs as adult males, thanks @scottinscilly.bsky.social. Seems to be a couple of GCs with pale tips on Asta bird

Was having the same conversation with Jack Morris, no old juv feathering in that wing or tail at all. What do 2CY males look like?, wondered if that accounted for head pattern?

We were hoping that the storm would deliver something from the west. And it did. Swainson’sThrush Foula today. Very difficult to get close too, hence the most record or record shots. #RareBirdsUk
