Just as we’re not there to give out funds we’re not there to take it away, but in some cases we may have “awarded” funds before the shutdown, like we approved an application or awarded regularly occurring funds, but we didn’t finish all the steps in the system to make it available, then it’s not.

That would be tough because HUD is so vast, but basically we can’t process applications for funding, give out any funding that wasn’t already available to grantees in our payment system on 10/1, nor can we provide technical assistance, oversight, support or advice.

I should say that while some funding streams are annual like the one you cited, others are monthly. Example would be Vouchers. PHAs would stop receiving $ from HUD on 10/1.

PHAs are able to draw down funds that were available to them in our payment system as of 10/01. So for example they already budgeted funds for a roof. They can continue to draw down funding. What stops is anything that requires HUD to push buttons. Let me know if I answered your question.

I held a rally with of Mitchel Houses, calling on HUD to provide emergency funding to restore the partially collapsed building and to re-house displaced families.

We cannot separate the collapse of a public housing building from the collapse of federal funding for public housing.

Housing is the single biggest expenditure for the average American household, followed by transportation and food.

To bring down the cost of living, the biggest "bang for your buck" is zeroing in on those three - especially housing.

Let me start by explaining that most of the Agency is furloughed with very limited staff deemed essential. HUD oversees nearly 80B$ in Federal Financial Assistance on a given day.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.
