DC Statehood needs to be a Day 1 priority, the one place the Guard aren't being withdrawn is where there is no federalism to protect citizens from presidential overreach. This can never happen again.

A lot of liberals would act just like conservatives if their ethics didn’t dictate outwardly appearing different.

Israel admitted it bombed a wedding in Gaza and killed 7 but nobody in the UK or Australia or anywhere else will clamor to ban the phrase "Israel has a right to defend itself"— again I have to wonder why.

There is an interesting albeit not that deep tension in how pro Israel American politicians and outlets talk about Arab states— they bemoan the lack of democracy but are also aware that any democratic Arab state would be more anti Israel than the regime it'd replace, and so they support the regime.
What is all the more bewildering though is that the Saudi state is still remarkably friendly to Israel, and is friendly against the wishes of the Saudi public. This sort of complaining by pro Israel outlets looks absurd in this context. It is almost impossible for Saudi to be more pro Israel.

this has always been the most baffling and depressing thing about the political hellscape we have lived through in the last decade

there is nothing there at all except a rapacious, all-consuming need for praise, no humanity at all, nothing but a carnival barker's ability to work the crowd
Virginia Heffernan wrote this shortly after the 2016 election and it still holds true

Polygon really trying to have their cake and eat it here - the headline on the link pays lip service to the controversy around the game, but the headline on the actual article and the body of the text make no mention of it, and read as a straight promotion. Pretty fucking gross, honestly.

Look I disagree with liberals that the Iraq War did not, partially, have to do with resource control but we really do need to let the “US only does wars for oil” shit die.

“We knew very well what we were electing” isn’t a defense of Trump’s actions. It’s an admission of your complicity.

Something I'm genuinely tired of seeing is how far people will reach to call something awful.

I'm all for having higher standards and all... but much of it feels disingenuous lately, at least to me.

Is it so wrong to just enjoy things for what they are sometimes, even if they aren't the greatest?

Though, in fairness, I’ve become a misanthrope so there is an argument that I’m just as insane. But I at least don’t make it other people’s problem.
Look, I get why Lockhart is the way she is, but I’ve been thoroughly burned by the far left and I still don’t act like they’re all my personal strawmen. In fact there’s many of them that I still respect even if I disagree with them nowadays.

we live in this bizarre time where “being racist” is, by the rules of discourse, Bad

but the act of being racist is now acceptable, apparently, and so the press bends into a pretzel to avoid calling open racism racist because describing it accurately would be “picking a side”
Here's a better headline for Axios: "How Trump has normalized racism and racist slurs." Why can't some journalists just call a thing what it is? https://loom.ly/hiKWr58

Yea and also to say… crossovers were and are never reliant on corporate mergers, it feels like another instance of someone trying to justify their fandom interests/disinterests with performative leftist rhetoric
I saw someone say they lost any interest in crossovers because of Corporate Mergers and that makes me sad.

Fuck corporate mergers... but like when it comes to fan made crossovers... that shit isn't our fault.

I mean this with much respect, have you all been paying attention before 2025? Stephen Crowder has been an out and about racist since Trump’s first term. Probably before then too. He literally ran towards a vehicle with immigrant working yelling “I’m gonna report you to ICE.”
