The underlying flaw in this analysis is one common to many liberal commentators in the United States and elsewhere.
It is the assumption that aspiring authoritarians will allow themselves to be hemmed in by a set of established written and unwritten rules.

This is very good. "Trump is acting like a king because he is too weak to govern like a president. He is trying to substitute perception for reality. He is hoping that perception then becomes reality. That can only happen if we believe him."
