New review paper on metabolic handoffs in microbiomes led by PhD student Katie Klier.

We define major types of metabolic handoffs, examine their drivers and benefits, & describe their importance in different complex microbial systems and environments.

Hydrology Paper of the Day @maggielangwig.bsky.social on how viruses evolved near deep-sea hydrothermal vents: a global perspective on genomes and taxonomy; how viruses are related; similarities along hydrothermal fields; host abundance and hydrothermal geology; and future research.

Very excited this part of my PhD is out 🎉 We describe vent viral and microbial traits that govern viral biogeography and contribute to mounting evidence that these communities are highly endemic, and thus likely vulnerable to disruptive activities like deep sea mining

NEW: Sources tell my office that Treasury Secretary Bessent has granted DOGE *full* access to this system. Social Security and Medicare benefits, grants, payments to government contractors, including those that compete directly with Musk's own companies. All of it.

I made a 2024 resolution to watch 100 movies new to me. I ended up watching 101! And then because I am nerd I decided to turn my movies into figures and data!

I did all this in R, which allowed me to make new figures and challenge my skills! I used all the Wes Anderson color package.
