Found it, yeah, this is "officially" what happened, and I don't really see there being much missing or differently than this account of events.
YouTube comment from @EmSee360 "Correction: Gundam X never got cancelled, it just got shortened. It's a common misconception as the series was indeed cut from it's intended 50 episode run. However, this decision was made voluntarily by the show runners due to problems with the broadcaster TV Asahi. In short, TV Asahi's President at the time didn't value anime to be in such an important time slot of 5:00pm. It was their decision to have the series be moved to a morning time slot. Fearing budgetary problems in the long run, the decision was made to take the remaning episodes and rearrange them to fit in 39 episodes. While it is indeed shorter, nothjng was cut out from the series in the end. It all feels like semantics, but even the director Shinji Takamatsu doesn't agree with the notion that the series got cancelled as they did manage to tell everything they want to tell with the story. (Edit: Also to clarify, there is a distinction between 0079 and Gundam X's shortening. With 0079, it was definitively cancelled because there were story arcs that got cut during the shortening. With Gundam X on the other hand, no story arcs were left out and the story itself still remains the same just a bit rushed at the end. In effect it feels like it was paced like it was a compilation film but everything is still indeed present) Still a good video btw. Keep it up, we need more and more Gundam X love."
