Actual study: Anthropic paid MIT to use a "labor simulation tool" that said 11.7% of TASKS could be done by AI
MIT study finds AI can already replace 11.7% of U.S. workforce

20 minutes of cutting up prunings and now I have a month worth of kindling for winter 😁

The reality is that IT workers are finding it hard to find jobs, like everyone, because all the money is going elsewhere, maybe to things like building AI data centers, and to trillion dollar cunt taxes, but not wages. The actual utility of AI has very little to do with it.

This happens every day. Headline “AI is a big deal, it is scary and coming for your jobs”. Article content (99% not related to AI) ”AI is a little bit useful sometimes“ www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3608...
‘Hundreds of applicants for every job’: Why not even the tech industry is safe from AI

This is the best time in the release cycle to take a break for a few days, when the build is out with testers. So yesterday I played the guitar and sang for a total of about 6 hours 😅

one thing i feel like you’re seeing across nato countries with this new 5% of gdp defense spending goal is an attempt to pull more civilian agencies under the defense umbrella so it counts toward the goal.

feels like a bad shift to put so much of society effectively on a war footing though.

I just realized I managed to get through the entire spring without using any roundup. Lots of line trimming and hand weeding actually did the trick.

Spent most of yesterday trying to track down a memory corruption crash, then this morning it finally occurred to me to try it on a Mac instead of PC. It instantly crashed in a new place, right where the actual problem was. Cross platform FTW!

And I also have to post this cheeky little chives plant. It is growing in the middle of a path, in the way, and I don’t understand how it got there, but it’s my friend now. 🌱

And this year is the first year that my kanuka have flowered, and it’s great! I got this one in the post rolled up in newspaper as a little seedling from a nursery in Northland. 🌱

Here’s the first dahlia of the season just opening up. Last year this one really struggled in the dry and with the rabbits, but after loads of mulch and water, this year it’s doing OK! 🌱

This whole year I have been in grief about the state of the world, what we have lost and will lose. And the year is not even over yet. And next year will almost certainly be worse🫩

I’m at that point with the update where everything on my todo list is done, so I guess I have to release it soon! Always feels anticlimactic somehow.

Found some photos from the 2000s and was sad they were in a shoebox, so I stuck them all to my office bathroom wall between the flamingos. Found an old folded up painting too.

We’re going to get addicted to AI, and then it will be used to control us. Not me, of course, not you either maybe. But society is fucked.

It occurred to me over breakfast that the social consequences of many people believing that LLMs are intelligent might have a lot of similarities with what has happened with many believing in a god, and it ruined my day honestly.
