And I only am escaped alone to tell thee
Humans are always living through history. We're just not always aware of it because we're too close to see patterns or can't anticipate how a seemingly minor event will ripple outward. But this is one of those times when you can't help but realize that historians will be writing about this day.

Yeah? Well, I’m going to extend the sale deadline for 90 days!

“You don’t have the legal authority to do that, random Bluesky person.”

Neither does the President.
Donald Trump plans to sign an executive order to extend tomorrow’s TikTok sale deadline by 75 more days.

If Mills and ME Legislators can find the strength not to give in, they’ll do the world a great service. To be defeated bullies need to be revealed for what they are. Law firms, universities, and CEOs are preemptively, almost gleefully, handing over their lunch money.
There's a lot going on, God knows, but don't miss that the President of the United States is using the full force of the Federal government, as well as tax dollars, to punish a state because its Governor... refused to do as he instructed.

U.S.D.A. Freezes Funding for Maine Amid Battle Over Transgender Athletes
The administration concluded last month that Maine had violated federal law by allowing transgender athletes to play on girls’ or women’s teams.

I’ve been impressed by the Editorial Board at the Times recently but the paper needs to reckon more w/ the many implications of the US becoming a rogue nation. An international boycott of the 2028 Olympics for example? I’m sure it’s being seriously discussed.
Listen to “The Headlines,” which brings you the biggest stories of the day from the New York Times reporters who are covering them, all in about 10 minutes.
Trump ‘Not Joking’ About Third Term, and the Myanmar Earthquake Toll
Plus, trying the impossible at the Olympics.

I’m not going to judge someone whose family might be receiving credible death threats. But yeah, this feels like a sad capitulation when the moment calls for leaders willing to risk everything for their values. I’m thinking of the physical and moral courage shown by the Civil Rights marchers.

What country will buy F-47s from a nation they can’t remotely trust?

My view of the problem is there are no personal consequences for decision makers in the media to collaborate with Trump. Other journalists won’t name their cowardly or mendacious peers out of some perverse sense of loyalty. As a citizen I don’t know who to hold accountable.

Can we just fast forward to the “they collapse under the weight of their incompetence” phase? Must we go through the fascism first?

I’m not sure what the CCP is waiting for. #Taiwan will never be more of a sitting duck than it is during this time of confusion, chaos, and crisis in the US.

Being this is @bsky.app I know I’m speaking into a void, but whatever you think is going to happen (r.e. DOGE, pennies, Greenland) is not what will happen. Reality never exactly conforms to human expectations. Our species is demonstrably horrible at predicting the future.

Prepare for the schadenfreude because Patel is coming for some of the same senators who will confirm him (looking at you Susan Collins—they remember your vote to impeach).
Chris Murphy: "My prediction is that if you vote for Kash Patel, more than any other confirmation vote you make, you will come to regret this one to your grave."

Hypothetically speaking, if a president lost his cognitive faculties and demonstrated his mental and emotional deterioration through his actions, would the US media even dare to report? What might it take? Would we need a literal child to point out the absence of presidential clothes?

One thing that’s all too clear to me about the present moment is that far too many people in the media never learned in childhood that standing up to a bully is the only way to stop him.

Prediction : Susan Collins will vote against all of the upcoming controversial appointments who will nevertheless still make it through the Senate giving Trump his wins & Collins plausible deniability going into her next election.
