Winter gnats (Trichocera annulata) have a lifecycle evolved for the cold. Adults males dance in winter to woo females who then lay eggs in damp soil. By spring, larvae hatch & feed on decaying matter, then pupate & metamorphose through autumn, then emerge in the next winter #BugLife #CambridgeUK
