I've written about why Trump wants Venezuela's oil and the role my homeland of Guyana plays in this mess. I talk about why my family and I fled Guyana in the 80s, the history of exploitation in the region, the border dispute, Socialism in Guyana, Jonestown, & more

Some white men excel at narrative construction because they spend their whole lives revising history to make it seem like they are always the hero or victim.

The gap between Gen X and Gen Y is larger than that between Boomer and Gen X or Y and Z. When Gen X was introspective it was “self-help”, part of the individualism of the late 20th century. It didn’t make people less narcissistic.

I stopped having heroes decades ago. So much of the culture I grew up on now seems like it came from the journal of a disgruntled teen. Maybe it was my immature mind or maybe we put angry toddlers on pedestals and pretended they were gods.

Watched that P Diddy doc and was surprised to hear Puff was hooked on Ketamine. K has become the crack epidemic of the upper class. I’ve personally witnessed it destroy at least 3 rich people I knew. They disassociated themselves from humanity.

Deepak Chopra is on the Epstein list. Between that, defending Peter Theil, and being besties with Joe Rogan, Duncan Trussell has one of the worst senses of what a “good person” is. Dude acts like he’s connected to spiritual wavelengths and he can’t even sense evil in front of his face.

Other than narcissism, social media has also increased the prevalence of bigotry among GenX. It’s now far easier to assign someone to a group like “entitled millennial” than to be bothered to consider their POV.

As Dante noted, the amoralist that pretends to be an ally is far worse than your enemy. Yet more tragic and common than both are those who truly believe they are allies, even as they undermine the fight.

I consider it a badge of honor to get randomly blocked by a narcissist that I already unfollowed and stopped talking to. Much like his narcissistic friend, who made up stories about me to protect his ego from criticism, the unnecessary pre-block is the ego building walls. I’m not trying to get in.

Gen X celebrities are coming to the slow painful realization that fandom was a 20th century convention; the internet is flat, and everyone is just a person online now.

There are no “cat people vs dog people”. There are “people who love animals but are too lazy to walk a dog everyday” and “people who hate cats”.

One sad feature of Gen X is the idea that being good at a thing (athlete, musician, writer, actor) can excuse you from having poor moral character. These days, exposing your lack of integrity or self-control via social media can and will negate whatever skill your contribute, as it should.
