As a poor birder, more random snapper, had to go look up the species that might fit the bill (or beak ... no? Ok, seeing myself out) and figured my favorite bluebird parents may fit the bill.

📸 The Pygmy Nuthatch is the smallest of the 3 nuthatches in western North America. It can weigh only 0.3 to 0.4 ounces, and they will always roost at night in a communal group which may contain up to 100 birds.

Or 40 ounces. 🤔

A Pygmy Nuthatch is a tiny songbird with a short, square tail, a relatively large, rounded head, no discernible neck, and a straight, sharp bill. Slate gray wings and bluish-gray back; rich brown cap ending in a sharp line through the eye. Underparts are whitish to pale buff. A backlit one is pictured here in profile on a curved Ponderosa Pine branch with the canopy in bokeh behind.

It’s been so hot this week that I’ve been keeping in the shade. I’ve had good company though, lots of gorgeous Broad-leaved Helleborines!!! Thankfully they haven’t been chomped by deer this year! #WildflowerHour
Broad-leaved Helleborines can be quite hard to spot. Frequently found amidst bushes and in the drip line of trees their subdued colours mean they can hide in plain sight! Take a moment to have look closer and you will be rewarded with subtle elegant beauty 😍
