I’m (finally!) going down the rabbit hole and starting an inventory of the postcards I’ve been collecting for 37 years.

I’ve set up a DB and forms to input data, but will still be working out the analytics as I go. I also have plans for a (new) map.

It’s a really daunting task, but I’m excited

My great grandmother would have turned 123 today. She passed away in 1999, and I was lucky enough I got to be with her 18 years. I ‘found’ her some years ago in a book, with her 2nd husband and my ‘real’ great grandfather, who past away when I was 5.
Here they are in 1954, Clarinda and Vitorino.

A great thread, filled with top notch recommendations!
I saw this with 1 like = 1 plan.

I'm not into plans, but how about:

1 like = 1 (fantasy) book recommendation?

Comments with specific requests welcome. 😉

@patricksamphire.bsky.social some love for your book!
Book#25 💙

Sword and sorcery with an urban fantasy feel. Fast, chaotic, and fun. A stubborn, headstrong hero with dry humour, sharp banter, messy choices, and a city that feels alive. Murder mystery energy, momentum all the way, a wildly entertaining romp.

Nina has been napping a lot so she can recover better and faster. The worse seems to be behind us now, but she gave us quite a scare. A week of meds to go and a lot of resting to do. Vet appointment later today, so fingers crossed. #SuperNina #DogsofBluesky

Nina has been ill for a week now. After 2 prior appointments, they decided she needed to be hospitalized, on Xmas Day. She’s lost a kg already and today they told us she needs to stay longer. I don’t see her getting better, despite what they tell us. I don’t know what to do with myself anymore.

To err is human, and people in the past made mistakes just as often as we do today. Why, then, are archaeologists often reluctant to consider failure as a driving factor when investigating unexpected findings? #WorldQualityDay

In 2020, a farmer in England discovered one of the most significant Roman mosaics in the country. Archaeologists believe it depicts scenes from the Trojan War—but NOT the version told in the Iliad.

I absolutely must learn French. The sheer amount of books that are published in French, in lovely, quality editions at fairly accessible prices is mind-blowing. Both fiction and non-fiction. I can read at a basic level but bought 3 medieval history related books because I just could not resist then.

Today is the day!

The long-awaited Mennik Thorn prequel novella, The Dead Man, is out now. I promised this to readers quite a long time ago. It works well either as an introduction to the series or for those who've read the other books, so no excuses! Go get it. :)

One of the greatest writers I’ve read.
Remembering Italo Calvino on his birthday 🎂
📷 Ulf Andersen, 1984

"Architect of scrupulously imagined, apparently fantastic, insidiously plausible words, Calvino occupies a literary space somewhere east of Jorge Luis Borges & west of Vladimir Nabokov."

"The greatest tales are told over and over, in many ways, through centuries. Fantasy changes with the changing times, and yet it is still the oldest kind of tale in the world, for it began once upon a time, and we haven't heard the end of it yet."

And here's a useful map of the chronological - and spatial - distribution of early medieval bed burials from a recent article. A A Noterman, 'Sharing a bed but nothing else', European Journal of Archaeology 2025 www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

TIL bed burials existed. I’m pleasantly baffled (if there is such a thing).
A bed found in the grave of a 30 year old man buried in Lauchhiem-Mittelhofen, southern Germany, dated to 704AD.
