The throughline of TLJ is “it’s more complicated than that, but also it isn’t”. The Resistance isn’t squeaky clean like Finn thinks, but DJ’s apathy is still poisonous. The Jedi were a bunch of corrupt fools who brought their demise upon themselves, but the galaxy still needs them.

The way people talk about this film, sometimes I feel like I must have hallucinated the scene where Luke literally looks at the camera and says “I will not be the last Jedi”
The Last Jedi didn't suck because it had an asian woman, it sucked because it said "You know the Jedi? Corrupt, they should stay dead. The Republic? Corrupt, it'll never help you, so fuck it. Both sides buy weapons so everyone's corrupt. You want to give your life to fight evil? You selfish idiot."
I've grown to reflexively hate movies/tv shows that portray every major institution as evil and in need of tearing down by the righteous and pure protagonist. It's genuinely toxic at this point and trains viewers to apply that lens to everything. It doesn't work. Society needs to exist.

I think most people are intuitively aware of this but something like the official White House account posting an “ASMR” video of shackled immigrants is not just cruel for its own sake, it’s intentional envelope-pushing to ramp up to desensitization over inhumane detention, camps, and deaths
