And here we go. I never wrote this article, and yet it is cited here.

And of course, it sounds so plausible, I seriously checked whether I had forgotten it, or the footnote was slightly wrong.

There was an interesting paper about comparing the cost of local models vs the using the big AI labs in hospitals, so you might see people start to take a crack at it:

Looking at GenAI costs in healthcare: For medical billing, a local AI model was more accurate and faster than GPT-4. Meanwhile, using commercial LLMs at scale could incur annual API costs of $115k to $4.6M, posing a significant financial challenge for healthcare systems.

Its like the work they do in severance where you cluster numbers together and put them in a box based on “vibes”

I immediately close any webpage that doesnt have a simple way to deny all. That one where you have to toggle through a long list of cookie permissions? I no longer read those websites at all. How can there possibly be “67 legitimate vendors” for each type of adtech use case?!

I love our digital ecosystem mapping at @platformable.bsky.social Here we look at the digital health ecosystem and map stakeholders, components and value that can be generated. Ideal way to start on ecosystem design thinking if looking to engage in digital health… platformable.com/blog/digital...

There are lots of us working on it in our own ways. I have been running platformable.com for 5 years and industries incl banking/finance, health, sustainability, supply chain mngt, and agrifood are all interested in how to shift to more open standards, open source, open web… We can still win this!

Migrant healthcare workers in UK and Europe often put their own health at risk to provide support throughout the initial COVID waves pre-vaccines. In EU, we aren’t even respectful enough to count race/ethnicity in health pop data so can’t even see the contribution properly without one-off studies
markboyd.bsky.social
Highly recommend this. When we talk about digital sovereignty and EuroStack it needs to be more than just swapping out US bigtech for potential EU founders with the same growth mindset and instead lead to open digital ecosystems that support everyone to participate, including workers

To use digital technologies and AI without feeding billionaires with public data and money, and for workers to have a say over their job, EU Apply AI strategy must include

- EU public digital infrastructures
- Artificial Intelligence at Work Act

Very interesting new polling data:

The vast majority of French, Germans and Italians support strengthening European tech sovereignty and incentivising "Buy European" approaches.

Another area where European voters are ahead of the policy debate.

I renewed my annual MU sub just to start my thursday mornings with this joy: new storytelling, easter-egg jokes, evoking the early days of HIV/AIDS community activism, the hotness of kid juggernaut in crop tops and short shorts, the threads of marvel canon woven in, thankyou for a reading delight

Promising start to a new relationship between EU & big tech. Consumers and businesses would definitely be worse off if big tech platforms get in on financial data. Banks have dragged their feet on creating open banking/finance ecosystems but it is happening and regulation and standards have helped.

Big story in the battle between Brussels and Big Tech:

The EU is poised to exclude Meta, Apple, Google and Amazon from a new system to share citizens’ financial data, in the face of Trump’s retaliation threats

This is what infuriates me about the competitiveness agenda: we are measuring competitiveness against a country where there is vast inequality between ceo and workforce pays, no universal healthcare, rising authoritarianism, lack of regulations for food safety, worsening child mortality and so on.

I wrote how eurostack advocacy efforts should take a decolonisation approach and one of the strategies i proposed was to form alliances to support former european colonies to avoid bigtech neocolonialism like what is happening in Indonesia (platformable.beehiiv.com/p/the-eurost...)
