piracy is a morally correct choice in a world where prices increase in inverse relativity to job prospects. you deserve access to culture no matter what side of the poverty line you're on. buy a used video game console and jailbreak it, learn to torrent, install soulseek. art is for everyone

it’s absurd that NYT forced him to delete these skeets, which … convey the factual information that Zohran Mamdani is, in fact, a man of South Asian descent who was born and raised in Africa, and that the pseudonymous source of the hacked material is a white supremacist eugenicist.

Discomfort is not harm. Internalize that.

Discomfort is not harm, and if you're made uncomfortable by the work of a total stranger who does not know you exist, you can just process on your own and move on. You do not need to make it anyone's "fault" and no one needs to be "held accountable" for it.
If you dislike something or it makes you uncomfortable, that’s okay! But you don’t need to let the creator know. You don’t need to let anyone know, honestly. You can just ignore it and move on with your life. Fandom is about enjoying the things you like, not bashing the things you hate.
I woke up in the night thinking about this & will forget if I don't wing it into the universe right now, so...

what are some etiquette tips you'd give to someone new to fandom spaces?

in addition to "discomfort does not equal harm" I wish people also realized that sometimes (actually, most of the time) if there's something uncomfortable in a narrative, it's supposed to be uncomfortable. yes, even if its "romanticized", the author usually trusts you understand it's uncanny.
