In fairness, I could have avoided my 45 ticket by going to the ever creatively titled Parking Store and buying a booklet of parking passes, but I guess I haven't made it a priority 🙄

Got my first parking ticket courtesy of the lack of parking meters in Winnipeg today 🫠 I only had my personal phone (a flip phone) on me, so couldn't use the app to pay. I looked around for a meter for a while until I forgot they're gone ☹️

"We’re operationalizing our old corridors—taking ancient trade routes our elders told us about and articulating them in a modern context."

Indigenous nations plan tariff-free trade corridor across US-Canada border.

That expert, @merissadaborn.bsky.social, said this set up – where mostly Indigenous families would be funding Indigenous cultural programming – “unconscionable,” given how the over-incarceration of Indigenous people has been linked to systemic racism and colonization in Canada.

It's been estimated that the two massive North Dakota dairy farms will, in a given year, produce a volume of waste equivalent to the sewage of a city of 1.5 million people – or the entire population of Manitoba.

More on that from my Saturday story ⬇️

“You can’t say that’s not going to create pollution — well you can say it, but to be able to actually prove that’s true is completely off, as far as many of us are concerned.”

Worries for Lake Winnipeg grow, as permit approved for N.D. mega-dairy ⬇️

Why didn't anyone tell me sooner that Willie Nelson's latest album is so legendary? He hits every single feeling in these tracks, my God. His earlier song Something You Get Through has been one of my favourite grief tracks this last year. No silver lining, just something you get through, day by day.

Karolina spent years idolizing raw vegan influencers on Instagram. She went to Bali to meet them — and never came home.

My deep dive on fruitarianism — a group of wellness influencers who exclusively eat raw fruit — is up on @nymag.com @thecut.com today. www.thecut.com/article/karo...

Fun story this morning. I spoke with Curtis Evans, the retired Marine in the viral photo below who took part in the anti-ICE protest at Broadview. He's a thoughtful guy, well read and with a dry sense of humor. Story @taskandpurpose.com taskandpurpose.com/news/marine-...

This afternoon, the AMC Chiefs-in-Assembly unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the federal government immediately eliminate the second-generation cut-off.

I wrote about this issue – and the impact it's having on First Nations families here ⬇️

An amendment to the resolution emphasized: "First Nations citizenship is a sovereign right that cannot be delegated, limited, or denied by any other government." Or, as one Chief put it: "We've never agreed to have any foreign government identify who our people are."
