My favorite #nonfiction #book this year was Embers of the Hands—Hidden Histories of the #Viking Age. (They weren't all rampaging warriors) I learned that one group traveled east and down the rivers of Russia, reaching the Black Sea, and that #Kiev #Ukraine was a thriving hub 1,100 years ago #booksky

"Solstice Sunset" I walked around the pond at Crown Hill Park in Wheat Ridge, CO yesterday. The low angle of the sun created some unique light effects. #Solstice #Winter #trees #sunset #photography #water #pond

The perspective in this picture is deceptive. Oscar's body is actually quite abundant, but this angle does allow you to admire his #Whiskers #WhiskersWednesday #cats #tuxedo #catsofbluesky

Oscar is pensive this #Caturday. We've been without electricity almost continually since Wednesday morning and Oscar is acutely aware of the change. In this picture he's in front of the fireplace, which he enjoys, but he wants things put back to normal, as do his humans.

This is the studio of Paul #Cézanne in #Aix-en-Provence #France. Looks like they're having an #OpenHouse #BlueSkyArtShow #photography #vacation #angles #shadows #blue I think this was one of my best photos from the trip.

Our power has been out since 6 am. It may not be restored for days if the intense, dry winds continue. As usual though, we are among the lucky ones. Plenty of firewood, candles, books, restaurants open just a mile away, cat snoring by the fireside. We are blessed this holiday season.

My favorite novel this year has been Kate Quinn's "The Briar Club" which involves a random group of women living in a Washington DC boardinghouse during the McCathy era. I love anything by #KateQuinn and this one has intrigue, spies politics and sex—all the critical elements! #Booksky #novel #books

The weather here has been very dry and windy. Our electrical provider shut off our power yesterday morning as a preemptive measure against a wildfire. It may be off until tomorrow. As much as I like Oscar snuggling up to keep warm, I'll be glad when this is done.

Male and female Harlequin Ducks on the Semiahmoo Bay in the Salish Sea. Even with a "least concerned" status, it is often considered a "rare" bird sighting...unless you live here or on the Yellowstone River where we saw them first!

My parents used to send us a #Tomten for Christmas, including during our daughter's snowboarding years. Mark's Mom always sent a handmade petit point ornament. The tree is up, Tomten are on the mantle. Charlie Brown music on Spotify. Cookies are in the oven. Christmas memories are coming back. 🎄

One of my #FavoriteThings about our trip to #France was finding the unexpected, like this ancient building with its tiny, fortified #stained-glass #window that we passed on the road up to Mont St. Michel. #BlueSkyArtShow

There's a little flock of ground-feeding #birds outside the kitchen window, and Oscar is using the sink as an observation point. The dishes must wait. #Caturday #tuxedo

Baie du Mont-St.-Michel. 11x14 original pastel painting.

This view looks west towards the Atlantic from the high rampart of this famous French Abbey. This is low tide. The bay is a UNESCO world heritage site, on the border between Brittany and Normandy.

I love this pattern made by #clouds and #airplane trails across the #sky in #Gordes #France when we were there in October. I've been saving this one for the #BlueSkyArtShow because I knew the right prompt would come up. ✈️⛅

Something outside the window has attracted Oscar's attention on this #Caturday morning. #Tuxedo #Cat #catsofbluesky For a few seconds, Oscar was sitting up on his hind legs like a meerkat, but I didn't snap picture in time. 🐈‍⬛

When we were in #Iceland in late September, we stopped at #EldstóArtCafe seeking #warmth and a good lunch. We found both in this charming café that's also a gallery where they display their ceramic and pottery pieces. It's southeast of #Reykjavik about halfway to the town of Vik. #BlueSkyArtShow

This is in the studio of the artist Paul #Cézanne in #France. See the tall, narrow door on the right? Cézanne painted on very large canvasses, and his stairwell was too #small to move his paintings outside, where he liked to paint. So he had this door constructed. #BlueSkyArtShow #Aix-en-Provence
