We cannot sell a people.

We cannot give away a people.

Bad colonial practices should be left in the 20th century.

But we do have an obligation:
As long as Greenland wants to remain part of the Kingdom, we must defend it.

Oh, don't forget the Epstein files.

Exactly.

There is no point in discussing sale/handover, because it simply isn't an option.

It may become devastatingly expensive for all of us, economically and even in human cost, but we can't sell or give away a people. Those bad practices were left in the 20th century.
Trump can put a million-percent tariffs on Denmark, and it still doesn't change the answer about Greenland. There are only two possible endings to this bizarre story. Either Trump gives up, or else he goes through with a military invasion.

It is quite difficult to concentrate on marking exams on the history of the English-speaking world, while waiting to find out whether the US will invade Greenland, break up NATO, and de facto end the American Empire of the willing...

Early 20th c handwriting help!

Can anybody read the first word/name/place name on this document?

It is from the manuscript of a brief talk about the League of Nations, probably given to a League of Nations Union meeting, dated 23 May 1934.

Location is likely either Australia or UK.

I am excited to be able to say that my book, 'From Empire to Commonwealth and League of Nations, 1920-29: Imperial Internationalism' is now under contract with Palgrave Macmillan to join the Britain and the World Series.

Though two sons graduating is the best of reasons to miss #BATW2025 in Liverpool these days, I would have loved to be there!

As it is, I am delighted to have signed a contract with the Britain and the World series for my forthcoming book, 'From Empire to Commonwealth and the League of Nations'.

While plenty of meaning is attribute to Robert Prevost taking the papal name Leo XIV, perhaps he just looked up old popes to see who resembled him most...

An anniversary worth marking.

I'm sure we're going to see the very people who have trashed its legacy seek to appropriate WW2 today - so let's remember what was really fought for: peace, a more united Europe, a land fit for heroes (mark 2) and the defeat of fascism.

Might you have some fun next week with King Frederik X of Denmark's visit to Greenland?
Flying there with the PM of Greenland and visiting Parliament, the northern most post on Greenland, and the Sirius patrol (of which he was a member in 2000).

Nice contrast to Vance, isn't it?

Proper political satire. Funny and achingly on point.

"Democracy dies in darkness" and one form of darkness is the suppression of opinion.

It has been looking increasingly dicey for a while, but with Bezos imposing censorship on which opinions will be allowed in the Washington Post, the choice to cancel subscription was sadly easy.

Is ‘America First’ the beginning of American irrelevance to Europe? -a thread

In terms of defense and international policing, the US has taken the role of an imperial hegemon since WWII. The classic view of Empires in western thought since the Roman Empire has been that of ‘Peace through Empire’.

Dear Americans,

At this point your new presidency is beyond parody (where is Tom Lehrer when we need him).

Can you please use the next 2-4 years to find a way to restore sanity?

Thank you

Just submitted my paper proposal for this year's Britain and the World Conference in Liverpool.

It is genuinely one of the most friendly and supportive conferences you will find in the field, with a lovely mix of familiar faces and newcomers.

Deadline is today, so last chance to join.
