I am on Charlie Kirk's hit list.

His so-called “Professor Watchlist,” run under the
umbrella of Turning Point USA, is nothing more than a
digital hit list for academics who dare to speak truth to
power. | landed there in 2024 after writing
commentary that inflamed the MAGA faithful. And
once my name went up, the harassment machine
roared to life.

For weeks my inbox and voicemail were deluged.
Mostly white men spat venom through the phone:
“bitch,” “c*nt,” “n****r” They threatened all manner of
violence.

They overwhelmed the university's PR lines and the
president's office with calls demanding that | be fired.
The flood was so relentless that the head of campus
security reached out to offer me an escort, because
they feared one of these keyboard soldiers might step
out of his basement and come do me harm.

And | am not unique.

Kirk's Watchlist has terrorized legions of professors
across this country. Women, Black faculty, queer
scholars, basically anyone who challenged white
supremacy, gun culture, or Christian nationalism
suddenly found themselves targets of coordinated
abuse.

I don't advocate for violence, but neither am I wholly opposed to it, as too many handwringers are.

At some point, those who willfully inflict violence must expect that violence to be returned.

"Political violence" is a term that exists to suggest a moral distinction between "violence against politicians" and "violence by politicians" - so that one can be condemned while the other can be normalized. Obviously, no such distinction exists in reality: violence is violence.

I completed the Somersault Sprint Triathlon this morning. Pretty happy with my time of 1:40:36, including transitions. I kind of went off course on the swim, which cost me a minute or two.

My Mastodon instance is back! It turns out I wasn't at fault, and that my update to the server actually worked fine.

Virgin, on the other hand, decided to put my home behind CGNAT, which killed all external access to my network. Ten days of phone calls later, and I am no longer a Virgin customer.
