Our 17-year study shows that even moderate winter events (rain-on-snow, melt-feeze) can negatively influence lemming winter reproduction and population growth. 🐹

Despite the many advantages of remote field monitoring, ecologists loose valuable insights as they spend less time in the field. Experiential knowledge gained through fieldwork or time spent on the land is essential for developing meaningful research hypotheses and enancing data interpretation. 🔬🌿

Interesting study! The decrease in predation by wolves on deer during mild winters highlights the important role of snow conditions in shaping predator-prey dynamic ❄️

Regarding wildlife, I am worried about increase in rain-on-snow events which increase snow hardness and could have several consequences on terrestrial mammals (movement, feeding, etc.). Also, decrease of period with snow cover reduces the availability of shelter for smaller ones. So much to explore!
