We are onto arguably my favorite holiday viewing tradition: The Goes Wrong Show -- with not one, not two, but three Christmas episodes!

* The Spirit of Christmas
* The Navitiy Scene
* A Christmas Carol goes wrong (2017 movie/prequel)

A Christmas tradition continues: "That's Jean Shepherd," my mom exclaims, "The man in the hat."

(The one who tells Ralphie & Randy he's at the front of the line & points to the end of the line.)

She has yet to observe that Bob Clark made Hollywood Knights [sic] (she always means Porky's of course)

1. ICE-holes in Yakima, Washington, kidnapped a man grocery shopping on Christmas Eve, then stole the food he'd bought.

Tired: (dumb libertarians like me) "You don't want the gov't to have that kind of power; imagine what a madman who hated you would do with it"

Wired: (reply guys to one of my favorite follows) "It would be awesome if the gov't had that kind of power, once the madman who hates us is gone"

#nobodycaresaboutyourfantasyteam

I'm in a "suck" league. The QB I drafted were Justin Fields & JJ McCarthy. (Two QB can start at a time.) Having protected as best I could, I later got Max Brosmer & Brady Cook on waivers.

Having those two in the championship game excites me more than any "real" FFL

Christmas movies, a spontaneous thread:

* A Christmas Story - is to movies what "All I Want for Christmas is You" is to songs. I still unironically enjoy it the first time or two each year.

* It's A Wonderful Life - I deeply appreciate the theory behind it. I no longer need to see it.

Word has spread of Paramount getting video of the 60 Minutes CECOT story taken down. Because of that, signal-boosting that (as of 4 p.m. Pacific 2025-12-24), this Bluesky post by @bubbaprog.xyz still has it.

King Oil!

1. 50M (me)

17 won an early race to 76, who didn't have enticing trade assets to stave off bankruptcy. Deals I made to keep 7 in the game worked well long-term but it still took great luck to go from "she has this" to "we will break the bank" to "I have this."

1. Heartbreaking: The worst people I know keep making great points. Elon Musk opposes tariffs, Marjorie Taylor Greene doesn't want POTUS to protect those (especially not himself) who sexually assault children, & now Laura Loomer has warned of the "neo-Nazi problem on the right."

7M is trying to learn Jingle Bells by ear on a keyboard. So far he's come up with:

D D D
D D D
D F# B C# D

E E E-E E
E D D D-D
G G F# E D

As the Ken Jeong sombrero gif goes, "I'll allow it."

1. Good news! The Supreme Court held, 6-3, that our president cannot militarize Chicago (or any other U.S. city) by "federalizing" National Guard troops against the governors' will.

Christmas music musing: currently listening to A Christmas Together (John Denver & The Muppets, 1979). That was the 2nd most played holiday album in my house growing up, behind only Christmas Portrait (The Carpenters, 1978), an album I still know by heart decades later.

Zipper merge. Learn it, live it, love it. Take f'ing turns.

That said, zipper merge does NOT mean zoom as far front as humanly possible. Whatever the car immediately in front of you does, you end up with exactly one car between. Like a zipper. Hence the name.
Let’s air those grievances. I want to hear your pettiest gripes on this the holiest of days.

Sports (corporate welfare): My grievance of the day comes from the National Football League, where billionaire owners are just recently (as in the past few days) getting into planned or threatened relocation, within their metro areas but technically across state lines.

1. Bari Weiss spiked a 60 Minutes piece on CECOT (the Salvadoran prison), turning it (and her) into even bigger news. Some international broadcast partners did show the piece, leading to online whack-a-mole to disseminate the video, like old-time samizdat.

Unconvincing truth works best as a change of pace alongside the kind of obvious corruption that's still (at the right bribe) mathematically correct for the sheriff to look the other way.
Family holiday gathering tonight. Played Sheriff of Nottingham which is fun. Son remains comically incapable of lying with a straight face. I remain best at the tell-the-truth-unconvincingly gambit.

17F gave 13M grief because he really likes "Welcome to the Black Parade" (17F also does) but could not name the band.

13M: "OK, I'm gonna get really into MCR. And Imagine Dragons!"

That's certainly a combo... but then, that's pretty much what my generation did with Pearl Jam & Creed, no?
