Although reading between the lines of the translation, it looks like the main problem will be running Hungarian trains on the line. If others have ETCS-compatible trains things might look better (if and when the equipment on the line is approved).

Hadházy: Chinese high-speed train will only be able to travel at 40 km/h in foggy conditions, safety equipment will not be available for an indefinite period
...
Traffic will start without safety equipment on the Chinese "super railway" in Kelebia. 😱

Great! I confess I didn't get to flagging it anywhere yet 😊

Termination was missing on the drive, surprise surprise. Fixed that. Localtalk works with my Beige G3/G4 😊

Progress, it now can somehow boot the harddisk after I plugged in an external SCSI CD-ROM drive with termination, even though it looked before like the drive was terminated. Confusing...

I'll report it, it doesn't sound like something deliberate

So geoblocking on ticket sales!?

I took a bit of a stare in that direction because I wasn't sure if the moving walkway was the right way to go. I didn't notice anything or have the impression that we were being inundated with people from the front of the train.

Is that on the cards? Would mean a massive rebuild. As long as they don't remove the piano 😅

But at the prices they charge (and I only pay the fixed FIP rate, x4 for a family), that's how it is. And I'm sure all that security in the background will keep prices high, even with new operators. We'll see!

The shops within the waiting area are not that big, but yes, that would help a bit too.

I'm really torn between "being able to take the Eurostar is a luxury privilege and I should pipe down" and "the security and waiting conditions at St Pancras are unacceptable"
January 3, 2026 at 9:55 AM
Revolutionary (and probably not novel) idea for St Pancras: get rid of those silly passport scanning machines and separate cubicles for French/UK immigration. Let them sit together in one cubicle with plenty of shift rotations. Would free up oodles of space and no doubt improve UK-EU relations!

Brussels, London, Liverpool. Next stop Belfast and that's enough travelling for a while.

A look around your average German long distance bus station shows the market for sitting long-distance overnight in a seat is huge. And the economics are bound to be better for whoever's running it with seats.
