"Gov Newsom signed a law today that rolls back the 25-percent tax on cannabis.

The bill was introduced in by Assemblymember Matt Haney.

Haney said the legislation was needed to give the state’s legal cannabis industry a fair chance to compete against the untaxed and illegal cannabis markets."

CA's cannabis excise tax is back to 15% effective Oct 1st. As a leading AB 564 co-sponsor, Cal NORML thanks our supporters who lobbied in person and sent over 10,500 letters. Thank you @matthaneysf.bsky.social for authoring this legislation & for joining the Yes on AB 564 kick-off Press Conference!
A group of Cal NORML supporters attend a press conference with Assembly Member Haney during Citizen Lobby Day on the steps of a California state Capitol, holding signs supporting AB 564. Text explains the cannabis excise tax law's passage, credits Cal NORML, and thanks supporters for their action.

I authored AB 1181 to protect California firefighters from known cancer-causing chemicals called per-fluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) — by banning them and other cancer-causing chemicals from firefighting equipment. The bill now sits on the Governor's desk awaiting his signature.

Firefighters put their lives at risk every day on the front lines saving lives, responding to emergencies and taking care of the vulnerable. We have an obligation to ensure they are not exposed to cancer-causing chemicals from the very equipment designed to keep them safe.

"Haney's bill would prohibit public colleges from punishing students if they call 911 during an overdose emergency, or if a peer does so on their behalf. It requires schools to offer rehabilitation options and requires students who seek emergency medical assistance to complete a treatment program."

"Assemblymember Haney will chair the Assembly Committee on Housing...

The position could prove highly influential as this year’s session gets under way, given both the Assembly and Senate have said they plan to place the state’s affordability crisis — including housing costs — high on the agenda."

...pardoning people who are on video violently attacking police officers with metal poles, ending billions in federal aid to sanctuary states and cities (that would mean California), cancelling the appointments of tens of thousands of migrants who were legally following the process, and on and on..

And those are just a small handful of the dozens and dozens of executive orders already signed: withdrawing from all climate change and global health cooperation, stopping all efforts to reunite children separated from families by immigration enforcement...

If anyone you knew had a different idea about what this guy and his people are about, they should be quickly disabused of that. This is what this is.
